Ongoing Programme
The concept of formation of RCNN developed after assessing the existing status of information flow in the WASH sector. The need of a strong platform to facilitate the sharing of information was realized in order to improve the water supply and sanitation services at community, district and national level in Nepal.
WASH-RCNN is now functioning fairly effectively as a loose network for knowledge sharing. However, there is a clear need to further institutionalize RCNN within the WASH sector, improve networking among key stakeholders, and strengthen information management systems in order to establish RCNN as an effective knowledge hub and network.
In this context, this project “Strengthening RCNN Capacities for better Learning in the WASH Sector” has been initiated 2009 with support from IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, The Netherlands.
Objectives:
- Institutionalize RCNN in the WASH sector for credibility and visibility;
- Enhance effective networking for sector learning; and
- Strengthen information management system to address local demands for information and contribute towards sector learning.
Accordingly, activities are designed considering three major aspects of capacity building – human resource development (HRD), organisational development (OD) and institutional development (ID).
Activities:
- Develop a clear strategy and business plan in a participatory manner.
- Develop appropriate systems for proper management and governance of WASH-RCNN.
- Organize regular interaction programmes.
- Promote e-learning through website & newsletters.
- Organize a team-building event for all key stakeholders.
- Conduct training on information management skills to partners.
- Provide media fellowships.
- Establish resource centres outside Kathmandu.
As a result of this support programme, it is expected that the RCNN will position itself as a visible and credible network, contribute to establish a culture of effective WASH governance and develop system for knowledge management enabling WASH sector learning through sustainable delivery of services.
