Nepal Preparatory Meeting for First High Level meeting of Sanitation and Water for All (SWA): Global Framework for Action (GF4A) and continuation of the stakeholder dialogue to move to a programmatic approach was held on 5th February 2010 in Lalitpur. SWA: GF4A is a global network comprising of national governments, donors, multi lateral agencies and civil society organizations that will work together to achieve its aim of universal access to sanitation and water supply through better sector coordination, coherence and mutual accountability.

ArticleMoving towards Sector Wide Approach (SWAp)

Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW) organized 11th Meeting of the Water Supply and Sanitation Stakeholder Group on 26 November 2009 in Kathmandu. During this program Mr. Suman Sharma, Joint Secretary at MPPW emphasized on the need to move towards Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) for coordinated planning, harmonization, coordination and monitoring in the WATSAN sector. He further mentioned that we can start with knowledge management activities to accelerate SWAp initiatives in Nepal.

FileWorkshop on Sustainable Sanitation in Nepal

The workshop on “Sustainable Sanitation in Nepal: The Way Ahead” stressed on the need to enhance linkages with other sectors like health, agriculture and education to effectively promote sustainable sanitation in Nepal. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Thor Axel Stenstorm from Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), who is also an advisor to World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva giving a keynote presentation emphasized on the need to think sanitation from public health perspective in order to establish a long term solution to sanitation need of the people. Representatives from government, non-government, academia, UN agencies, bilateral agencies and businesses participated in the workshop. The workshop was organised by Nepal Node for Sustainable Sanitation, Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) in partnership with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene - Resource Centre Network Nepal (WASH-RCNN) on 23rd October 2009.
